LMU School of Business Unveils Brisley Virtual Reality Lab

VR Lab

The Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) School of Business is excited to announce the development of the Chester and Eva Brisley Virtual Reality Laboratory, a state-of-the-art facility designed to integrate virtual reality (VR) technology into business education.

"I am thrilled to announce the opening of the Brisley Virtual Reality Lab. Virtual reality in higher education offers transformative benefits by allowing students to immerse themselves in lifelike environments that enhance understanding, foster creativity, and bridge the gap between theory and real-world application,” said Dr. Kelsey Metz, Dean of the School of Business. “This technology not only makes learning more engaging but also equips students with practical skills and experiences that are increasingly vital in today's digital landscape.”

The lab will feature six Meta Quest 3 VR headsets with controllers, personal computers, microphones, desk stations, and a camera for room monitoring. This advanced setup will facilitate a hands-on learning environment, enhancing student engagement and curriculum development.

Bodyswaps, an established VR soft skill training provider offering artificial intelligence (AI) powered simulations for business students, will be a key component of the lab. The simulations will be integrated into the curriculum of BUSN 350 – Business Communications, a core course for all business majors at LMU. Modules focusing on active listening, clear communication, workplace communication, negotiation and conflict management, talented teamwork, and public speaking and presentation skills will be embedded into the course. Additionally, students will have access to employability modules, including a job interview simulator.

Future plans include expanding VR simulations to other courses, covering topics from recruitment and talent acquisition to marketing management and conflict resolution.

The Brisley VR Lab represents a strategic investment in the School of Business, setting a new standard for business education and ensuring LMU remains at the forefront of innovative teaching methods.
